New Year New You
It is hard to believe that 2025 has just about been and gone already. 2026 is on our doorstep and will no doubt fly by like 2025 did.
That means the bombardment of NewYear New Me is about to start. Jokes aside this is a great time of the year to reflect and think about:
1. What worked well this year andtherefore you want to keep happening
2. What you want to change in the newyear
For the things that worked well the idea is to work out what needs to happen to ensure that those things continue. That might be reinforcing behaviours of your people. Looking at rewards to help with such reinforcement. Setting expectations or standards to ensure that it keeps happening nowthat it has been proven.
For the things you want change onthe idea is identify those things and set goals to actually get that change.
Identifying the issue is half thebattle. Once you know what is buggingyou that doesn’t mean you have to solve it alone. Enlist the help of your people such as yourteam and/or your trusted advisors such as us. Your people in particular will have their own take on what is wrong andhow it can be fixed. You might just needto create the space with them to workshop it and get them in the right frame ofmind.
Once you have your problems to fixset expectations, standards and goals to get the change you want. Goal setting cops a lot of flack but justhaving a goal and writing it down or sharing it with people around you makesthem significantly more likely to be achieved.
Best way to get your team on thesame page with all of this is to buy them in on the process to help identifyand troubleshoot the problems. They aremuch more likely to follow a system they help create.
If the goals feel too loose or too large then break it down into smaller goals so there are milestones that create a sense of progress and achievement. Every small improvement will only help get closer to the end goal.
Don’t lose sight of your personalgoals in amongst the search for business improvement. End of the day that is the whole reason weget into business so you should enjoy the rewards too. Take some time out over this holiday seasonand freshen up ready for a big year ahead!
